FBSR - Tank Waste Treatment

  • Tank waste feed is combined with co-reactants and superheated steam
  • The waste feed is converted into a mineral product
    • Radionuclides, non-volatile heavy metals, alkali metals, S, Cl, and F are immobilized in the crystalline mineral structure
    • The leaching resistance of the mineral product exceeds the performance of most LAW and HLW borosilicate glasses
  • Organics are destroyed
  • Nitrates and nitrites are converted to nitrogen gas
  • The stack off-gas meets Maximum Achievable Control Technologies (MACT) requirements
  • There is no secondary process waste
  • There is no liquid effluent
